The details that separate a good mold base from a problematic one are often in the auxiliary systems. The parting line must be positioned to avoid visible witness lines on cosmetic surfaces and to ensure adequate clamping force distribution. Ejection design—whether stripper plates, ejector pins, or sleeve ejectors—needs to match part stiffness and draft angle; a poorly supported ejector plate will flex and cause pin binding. Cooling layout deserves the same attention: conformal or baffled circuits around cores and slides reduce warpage and cycle time, and every circuit should be checked for turbulent flow (Reynolds number above 10,000) rather than just "enough" water lines. Standard mold bases from catalogs can save weeks, but non-standard pitches, slide pockets, and hot manifold clearances often require custom machining.

In practice, the mold base is a system, not a catalog item.
